Also known as Bayamon Nuevo, this is Puerto Rico’s most developed climbing area, with more than 130 climbing routes divided into 13 climbing areas. Here you’ll find routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.12d. This offers a big variety of routes to choose from and the opportunity to always climb in the shade. The area is located in Julio Enrrique Monagas Park, part of the Puerto Rico Parks Company. The park has parking facilities and numerous trails developed by the locals, which makes it very accessible. |

Directions: Take road 28 past Federal Prison, go past two stop lights and keep going straight until you pass gas station to your left. Take next road to your left, this is the entrance to Julio Enrrique Monagas Park. Go straight until you reach the entrance to your left. You’ll find a parking lot next to the gazebos, park here. Walk straight up toward forest and turn left at the end, make a quick right into forest trail and go straight up the forest until you reach a jeep trail which will take you all the way up. You will see different trails going up to the climbing areas to the right, take either one. If you go straight to the end on the jeep trail, you will reach a watchtower, in front of the tower is the entrance to “La Cueva”.
Camping: no camping allowed
Dangers: always watch out for bee and wasp hives; no dogs allowed in the park; beware of the loose monkey
